Anne Schroeder

A fifth-generation Californian, Anne's love of writing was fed by stories of her Norwegian great-grandfather and his immigrant neighbors working together to blast a mountain pass out of solid rock so they could get their produce to market. She writes about growing up in a close-knit Southern California farm community in her first memoir, Branches on the Conejo: Leaving the Soil after Five Generations

Her second memoir, Ordinary Aphrodite, is a light-hearted, but emotional collection about her life as a baby boomer who came of age in the ’60s with no idea of what her choices would involve. Earning a college degree with a husband and a toddler was the easy part; finding a way to grow within her marriage, her faith and her community was harder, but she has managed a long-term marriage and still write and travel to Paris, Zihuantanejo and several trips to Canada. She shares her insights into her long-term marriage with humor and spirit.

Schroeder has had short stories and essays published in over forty print markets including Potpourri, Liguorian, Skipping Stones, Stitches, Mindprints, Lynx Eye, Western Digest, Romantic Hearts, Radiance, and Christian Reader.  She edited Scent of Cedar, an anthology of short fiction and poetry.  She has taught creative writing workshops through community college and writers’ groups. She gives talks on writing and the women’s West. She is President-Elect of Women Writing the West and will be presenting a workshop on writing Memoir at their conference in Denver, in October, 2014.
