Two novels in The Illogical Detective series to be published by Untreed Reads Dec2010
I. Holes in Parallel Dimensions:1914-18 (WW1), Britain’s greatest detective, Albert Holes, and his companion Dr. Roger Aston discover that the parallel dimension is Fairyland, and that they are interactive. The British Government’s stationary is stolen; the Foreign Secretary is a spy, with an interest in genital photography, and commits suicide. The Home Secretary, a descendant of Simple Simon, engages Holes and Aston to find out who is manipulating Europe to go to war. At the same time Old King Cole engages Holes and Aston on a similar problem in Fairyland. This involves the murder of Rudolph the Reindeer, The Grand Old Duke of York and The Duchess by Father Christmas (Nick), who is also trying to take over Fairyland with the Big Bad Wolf. Are the Home Secretary and Holes’ House keeper spies for the Austro-Hungarian Intelligence Centre (AIC) or Fairyland AIC? The AIC becomes the London branch of the British pigeon fancier’s society. Holes and Aston are rescued by the Mad Hatter from the AIC who have sent in their top spy and he becomes a disturbed man after drinking a strong cup of tea, and suffers from time compression sickness. Is King Cole / Mr. E’loc a Serbian spy or the Antler murderer? Is the night soil wagon a weapon of mass destruction that is about to go critical? Have Holes and Aston fallen off their page.

II. Holes in Cornwall: Uncle Greatholes, the uncle of Britain’s famous detective, Albert Holes, is implicated in the alleged murder of the Mayor of Mouse Hole in Cornwall. Uncle Greatholes involves Holes, and Holes friend, Dr. Roger Aston, in the investigation. The investigation is being conducted by Chief Inspector Brastard of Scotland Yard. Holes theories on reverse logic lead him to believe that a four right footed cat is the clue to the murder and the treasure of the Pirates of Penzance. This leads him to stolen property being auctioned at the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin Moor. He reasons that the Beast of Bodmin Moor is a Were Cat controlled by the Ghost of Bodmin Moor; both involved with the stolen property being auctioned at the Jamaica Inn and the pirate’s treasure. Who is to inherit the treasure; Tom Bowcock and his four right footed cat; delegates from the Peanut Venders Conference; inhabitants of Mouse Hole and Camelford; Russian ship wreaked sailors from a riotous beach party or the descendents of the Pirates of Penzance. How are two sweaty socks, a signal rocket and a field mouse linked to raising the alarm that Penzance is being attacked by pirates? Is it all a marketing strategy by the chairman of the Cornwall Tourism Board, hanging judge Jeffries, involving an unknown play by Gilbert and Sullivan; The Police of Penzance, to attract tourist to Cornwall.
