A Note From Norah Wilson

Dear reader,

Most writers grow up knowing they want to become writers. I was a voracious reader of fiction, but it never occurred to me that I could be a writer of fiction until I was maybe 30 years old. As a youngster, I even thought about pursuing training to be an ad writer, since I loved the challenge of communicating effectively and making people believe (or want to believe) my message. I wound up in a very different career, but nevertheless was able to fulfill my creative drive through writing newsletters, press releases and other communications. But eventually (I never claimed to be all that swift on the uptake!), it occurred to me that the ultimate test in salesmanship was whether or not I could build a fictonal world with nothing but words. Once that idea took root, I dug in and started studying story structure and craft. Now I can't imagine not writing fiction.

But here's the thing -- storytelling takes two people, one to tell the story and one to receive it. Until someone reads it and has an emotional response to it, a story is just a collection of words. So, if you should one day buy one of my stories (or download my free novella) and find yourself pulled into the fictional world, find yourself rooting for these men and women, I hope you'll drop me a line to tell me the circuit was closed and the story worked.
