I am a psychotherapist, now retired after too many years to count of successful practice. I am Austrian, but spent much of my life in southern Africa, before moving to England and eventually settling in Spain, where I still live with my wife of 36 years. Much of my professional work had to do with relationship issues, but also with mental and anxiety problems. During my working life I have learned much about feelings and emotions, and that we are governed by them. I have also learned that we can use our cognitive ablilities to change our feelings. Since whatever we do is the result of our feelings, the knowledge of changing our feelings gives us enormous power. The power to greatly influence our life, and the power to be happy. As Aristotle said: Happiness is the ultimate value, the highest good.
My book Happiness Discovered shows that we all can learn to become happy.
A few months ago I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in my life. Not because of it - that would be weird - but in spite of it I am a very happy man. I have resolved that this time I will win the fight using my own powers of thought and mind. In addition I prescribed myself a rather strict diet and I take some natural products to detoxify my system, some anti oxidants and a few others. I most certainly want to avoid medical invasive intervention. Short term I plan to halt or at least to delay the progress of the cancer cells; long term I want to be free of them.
