A group of sisters who are witchlets, that is, half witches, each long for their true love. Legend has it that each one’s birth date holds a secret to choosing the right man. Kim, born at Hallowe’en, saw glowing pumpkins when she realized her true love. Tamberly sees swirling candy canes because she was born at Christmas. Their father, a warlock, has the last word on whether the male candidate is suitable for his daughters.
I know it’s just a cute little story, but I think if a non-warlock man was faced with all the shenanigans surrounding these girls’ meeting their intendeds, he might just run the other way. First there is the realization that a particular man is her own ‘heart call’ then within a day or so, she has to have sex with the man and give him the ‘sex hex’ test. Then he’s forever bound to the witchlet who hexed him. Most men would find this a bit scary.
Apparently Jon isn’t scared off and immediately falls in love, changes his whole life script for Tammy. They are married by day three.
I like stories, even witch/warlock ones like this one, to have a little conflict, maybe a little foot-stamping anger, maybe some bumps in the road, to give the reader pause. Tickle My Candy Cane just gallops along with everyone knowing the end result and the whole story could be told in one sentence—boy and witchlet meet, have sex, get married on her birthday, live happily ever after, the end. Except for a little sex, the story could be a children’s bedtime story.
