If you’re looking for a sexy, well-written story where the characters are endearing, the passion is explosive, the sex is sweltering enough to set your body on fire, and the love is everlasting to the point that it’ll weaken your knees and make you swoon, then Hidden Fire by Jess Dee is definitely the book to read. While Hidden Fire can be read as a standalone, I recommend that you pick up Winter Fire if you truly want to grasp the bigger picture, as well as the complexity of these enticing love affairs.

I know how cruel children can be, and it seems that in this day and age even with modern technology the cruelty and bullying still goes on with sometimes deadly consequences. I can only imagine the effect that slanderous lies would have on previously carefree teens. How can you get past something like this and what can you do to enjoy life and the people around you?
In Hidden Fire, Ms. Dee writes about how a childhood trauma affected the characters. What happened to Jenna and her brother has ended up coloring their adult lives and the way they interact with others and their relationships.
Hidden Fire is the second book in the Red Hot Weekend series, Winter Fire being the first. I would definitely suggest you read book one before you grab book two because then you understand the characters and the situation much better than just by reading a retelling of the events.
Jenna Brooks is about to face reality and what she has spent the last twelve years hiding from. She obviously wouldn’t have examined her feelings willingly or her brother and her best friend wouldn’t have kidnapped her or left her tied to a chair opposite the one man who can make her insides melt, who also happens to be tied to a chair. Now, the question is, is she going to confront and deal with the issues, or is she going to waste a golden opportunity to grab happiness with both hands?
Garreth Halt had Jenna in his arms and he proceeded to tell her something and before he could finish Jenna shut him down and only heard part of it and since then she has avoided dealing with him. Now it seems she has no choice! Garreth knows that beneath the rigid control Jenna exercises, whenever it comes to dealing with emotions or feelings or relationships, is a sensuous woman who is made for him. He wants to shatter that control into a million tiny pieces. With both of them tied to a chair, he might just be able to get close and he isn’t going to waste the opportunity to chip away at her wall of defenses one piece at a time!
Garreth can’t wait for the wall to come crashing down, because he plans to be there when it does and get in before she can do a repair job and tell her and show her just how much she means to him and hope that is enough. So, what happens when he admits what she means to him and Jenna’s defenses start to crumble. Can she admit she loves him? Will this be the end of the story?
Thankfully, this isn’t the end. There is more. Any other author would have stopped there and made the point of Garreth and Jenna’s admissions of love and deep seated lust for each other the end point, but Ms. Dee keeps going and takes the story farther, and oh boy does it go farther. The lovemaking that follows is off the scale; talk about off the Richter scale. These two go at it and the results are pure adulterous satisfaction, and yet on Jenna’s part, after she comes down from her sex and orgasm high there is also fear which threatens to undo all of the good that Garreth has done so far!
Can Garreth bring her back from the precipice of fear that threatens to erect those walls again to be even stronger than they were before? What will happen when she sees her best friend and her brother again? Find out if Garreth can keep the walls at bay or is there something else that might trigger them being put up again?
I enjoyed this story immensely because it is a story of growth and overcoming and also of the most basic need, that of survival. More importantly it is also about learning to admit that you love and want to be loved, and to be loved without fear and possible consequences. Jenna and her brother survived the scandal with obvious scars, but the time has come to really move past this incident and take what life has to offer with both hands. Ms. Dee writes great characters who have depth and emotion and you feel for them and can empathize with their situation. This is a great story about conquering your fears and then getting the man you love and the super scorching hot and sexy lovemaking that follows! Grab yourself a copy of Hidden Fire to see just how hot and sexy the fire burned for Garreth and Jenna. You won’t regret it at all!
