Primal Law is the first in a new series by J.D Tyler. It has everything that you could ask for—action, shifters, witches, humans with various psych abilities and an evil menace that needs to be stopped before all of mankind is in danger!
In this the first book, we focus on Jaxon Law and Kira Locke and the development of their relationship, but a great deal of the book is also spent setting up the world that has been created and revealing the main cast of characters that we will eventually find out more about.
On a weekend off Jaxon and his team mates come to the rescue of Kira who has just stolen some secret material and information from her work place. She has no idea what it all means, but she knows it has some meaning and she needs to do something. The guys are a top secret team of former Navy SEALS who became shifters after a violent attack in Afghanistan. Since becoming shifters, they now work to use their psych and shifting abilities to seek out and eradicate the world’s most lethal human and non-human predators. These men are have been through a lot and were betrayed and lost one of their own. Jaxon still has issues and has to deal with this as it involved him and he feels great guilt about what happened. All of them exude an unrepentant, raw sexuality and as well as being hunks they are also men who have yet to learn what it means to find a mate. Each carries his own scars and battles with his own demons and this is what gives them their humanity and makes them much more attractive and definitely worth fighting for.
These tough warriors are hesitant to engage their hearts, and fear they’re destined to be alone—because of what they are. The world they live in and protect is a dangerous place; their lives are constantly at risk and their futures uncertain. But they’ll brave hell itself and anything standing in their way to claim the mates they love…and Jaxon is the first to find out what it really means to find your mate and to also lose her in the blink of an eye.
Kira and Jax have an instant attraction to each other, but it takes near death for Jaxon to mate with Kira and even then he is reluctant because Kira wants to fall in love and not have her love determined by the genetics or the mating bond. Kira is a breath of fresh air for the guys and her impact goes beyond Jax and the guys he calls brothers. It extends to the Seelie fae royal who had been starving himself to death and other creatures that have been brought to the compound and kept there because there is nowhere else for them to go.
I loved reading about all of the guys and finding out about all of their abilities and what they could do. It is another interesting and original take on shifters and other creatures that make things go bump in the night! There is much more to come and in the first book, J.D Tyler has just scratched the surface. I cannot wait to find out more about the rest of the guys and find out who their mates are, and if they get the bad guys and if they work out what is really going on! Bring it on Ms. Tyler there are mysteries waiting to be solved!
