Lindsey Cartwright didn't set out to become the Wicked Witch of Comics. She wanted to learn the ropes before writing her own books. But then she met hot shot artist Kent Farrington and his dreams became hers. When he walked out, she decided living well was the best revenge. Now she's editing her own line of comics, perched at the top of the industry and forced to attend her first convention since Kent left. Kent approaches Lindsey at the convention because there will be fewer projectiles. He knows he deserves her scorn for leaving the way he did, but he's not prepared for the venom she throws at him or that their old chemistry will return so fast. She won't even let him explain why he left or what he's been working on to make it up to her. Maybe trying to talk to her at a convention wasn't the brightest idea either. Now Kent must convince Lindsey things have changed and Lindsey must convince herself she can trust him again. And they have to do it in front of a very large, very interested audience.

In the four years since her lover Kent Farrington walked out on her, comic book editor Lindsey Cartwright has turned into the “Wicked Witch of Comics.” Now Lindsey doesn’t let anyone get close to her; if they don’t get close, they can’t hurt her. Kent knows he screwed up royally when he left Lindsey but he has a plan to win her back; he just didn’t realize how badly he hurt her and how angry she still is. Maybe picking the middle of the biggest comic book convention of the year wasn’t his best idea? Can Kent even get Lindsey to talk to him?
I liked One Ring to Rule. In the beginning I didn’t think the author would be able to convince me that Kent could do anything to warrant Lindsey taking him back. As the story progresses and the reader is enlightened to his side of the story, I began to change my opinion. Lindsey started out with all my sympathy but as I saw how she contributed to the mess the couple made of their relationship, I decided she needed to listen to what Kent was trying to explain to her. This was a very emotional story for me; my emotions swung from crying to laughing and back again. The nosiness of the crowd at the convention added to the drama of the whole situation and made it much more difficult for the couple to communicate. The crowd and the couple’s friends also brought levity to the story. What I find really amazing is how much happens in such a short story! Ms. McClain snagged my interest from the beginning of the story and never lost it. This is the first story I have read by this author but it will not be my last.
