Flavia's Secret by Lindsay Townsend More than anything, Flavia does not want her new master, Marcus, to notice her. The female scribe of the proud, outspoken Lady Valeria, Flavia has a secret about her lady's death. When Marcus, Valeria's adopted heir, arrives in Britannia to take over her estate, Flavia tries to be invisible. If he doesn't notice her, he won't find out her secret. Her hopes are dashed when Marcus seeks her out, questioning her about Valeria's death. Against her will, Flavia finds herself drawn to Marcus, but as the two begin to trust each other, she is still reluctant to share her secret. When the ruthless Lucius Maximus takes an unusual interest in Valeria's estate, Flavia begins to suspect that he might have killed Valeria to protect himself. As Flavia and Marcus get closer to the truth, both their lives are in danger; and Flavia must choose whether or not to share her dangerous secret with the man she has learned to love.
Lindsay Townsend has given readers an exciting, sexy novel in Flavia’s Secret. Her characters are full and complete, with interesting flaws that make them seem very real. The reader will find themselves enchanted with even minor characters such as Hadrian, the young slave rescued by Marcus. Townsend's description of an ancient England under Roman rule comes alive with detail, and gives depth to the story. Her writing leaves the reader anxious to know what will happen next, and this is not an easy book to put down. This novel is highly recommended to historical fiction fans that will fall in love with the story of Flavia and Marcus. |
