Emily's Christmas spirit died with her husband, Greg, ten years ago. Sure she decorates the bakery and makes Christmas cakes and gingerbread, but that is a show she puts on for business. Her personal space is as cold and barren as her life. Then one day in walks Jim; he's new in town and doesn't see Emily as the stoic widow, he sees a beautiful woman waiting to be introduced to the joys of living again, and Jim wants to be the one to do it. Can Jim work a Christmas miracle and help this female Scrooge reclaim the feeling of Christmas?
Christmas Cake by multi-published author Victoria Blisse, is an inspiring "taste" of the holidays. A supremely stirring story of the disillusionment that many of us experience as we grow older, this short story reminds us all that Christmas isn't about toys or electronics, but about living, loving, helping and holding on to one another. I for one completely agree with the sentiment that Christmas begins entirely too early anymore, with decorations and advertising beginning in November shortly after Halloween and continuing through the New Year. It's nice to see a well written story about old fashioned values like helping the poor and supporting your neighbor. A much deserved "Well Done" to Ms. Blisse.
