Review:
Twenty-one year old wealthy widow Lady Phillippa Benning is the queen of the Ton. Her only competition for supreme control of the crème de la crème of society is her rival Lady Jane Cummings. Both ladies have their sights set on the ultimate catch of the season, the handsome Marquis of Broughton. But a dropped glove leads the handsome but bookish Marcus Worth to the feet of Phillippa instead of the Marquis.
Marcus proves to be more Philly bargains for, with his brooding ways and mysterious attitude. Through a series of incidents and misunderstandings, Philly comes to the conclusion that Marcus is really The Blue Raven, a notorious English spy who was the hero during the war. Blackmailing Marcus into helping her with the annual Benning Ball, where she plans to unmasked The Blue Raven, Philly finds herself entrenched in intrigue and spying as a result. Together the pair tries to locate the French agent Laurant, arch-nemesis to The Blue Raven. Philly tries to balance her new found identity as spy’s assist with that of society maven with surprising results. She begins to see herself, Marcus, and those around in a new light.
Will Philly win the Marquis or will she see there is more to Marcus than meets the eye? Will Laurant be captured and brought to heel before he wreaks any more havoc? And will The Blue Raven be revealed?
Revealed is the second book by Kate Noble in a regency series of sorts, but is a wonderful stand alone read. It is lush and delicious in its writing and the reader finds themselves being drawing to the intrigue right along will Philly, and falling in love with the brooding Marcus. Full of surprises and wonderful characters Revealed is a great read for snuggling under the covers and escaping the everyday grind. Having never really been interested in Regency Romance before, this book made me want to read more from this era and this author. If you are looking for something to fulfill that Scarlet Pimpernel, Tale of Two Cities craving this book is the one.
