After discovering one of her patients dead in her office, Doctor Annie McCall finds herself on the run for her life. Detective Marshall Thomas isn't afraid to break the rules and offers her refuge. The only problem is who'll protect Annie from him?
Annie is a psychiatrist with a thriving practice when one of her patients in inconveniently killed in her office late at night. Marshall is the detective assigned to the case & he feels Annie’s life may also be in danger, so he ends up taking her home with him so he can keep her safe.
Although there is a simmering attraction between the two, Annie chafes at Marshall’s bossy attitude, & wants to get back to her normal life. There’s a mystery here, as well as a love story, & once these two quit fighting the attraction, it’s a pretty good story. Annie is the bait that will bring out the killer, & the police & she think they know who that might be—a former patient of Annie’s who has a fixation on her & other women he has killed.
The premise is an old one, as we’ve read many times of the cop who takes the pretty girl into protective custody, getting her away from a stalker, while they fall in love. It’s pretty well done, if you ignore the t triteness of the subject, I liked Annie’s feisty personality, but the push-pull, hot-cold romance was way too predictable for a mystery.
