Zoe Ardelay father’s body is barely cold before she is summoned to travel to Chialto. Zoe is to become the king’s fifth wife. Her travel companion is Darien Serlast. Zoe cannot figure out why she would be chosen as a wife for the king. Zoe’s father was an advisor to the king many years ago but fell out of favor. They are forced to camp by the riverside. There Zoe meets some interesting people and comes into her powers. Zoe is a coru prime, who has the ability to control water.
Troubled Waters is the first book I have read by author, Sharon Shinn. I had no expectations of this book. From the first chapter, I was hooked. Zoe was a quiet character but a force to be reckoned with. Zoe brought the story to life. It was fun getting to watch her mature from a young lady into a grown woman and into her powers. Zoe is a kind spirited soul. Darien was an intriguing character. He was a man of mystery but as the storyline progressed, I got to know Darien better and warmed up to him. I did not feel the connection between Zoe and Darien, so it took me by surprise when they hooked up. Darien appeared several times throughout the book but not continuous. I plan to check out more books by Sharon Shinn. Troubled Waters is a magical journey.
