Middlemarch Mates, Book Six
Laura Adams is a cop with ambition, and a job in Middlemarch isn’t what she wants for her future. Hooking up with the wrong man is responsible for the wrong turning, and she refuses to repeat the mistake, especially with a sexy thief.
Leopard shifter Jonno Campbell takes one look at Laura and desires her as his mate. He’s enthralled with the fiery cop, and when she arrests him, he’s ready for a strip search. Convincing Laura he’s innocent and that they should work together to capture the thieves stealing from Middlemarch residents isn’t easy. A kiss laced with his easy charm does the trick and sparks fly. Passion escalates into primitive hunger. A night of hot loving convinces Jonno. He wants forever with the gorgeous Laura, but her ambition, his feline heritage and a gang of thieves stand in the way of his progress. Then there’s the ex-boyfriend who wants Laura back. This time charisma and erotic promises mightn’t be enough to win the lady.
Some say timing is everything…
So, imagine Jonno Campbell’s surprise when he’s arrested by his mate for being a suspected cat burglar. Although Jonno is a feline shifter and could have easily avoided being captured by the police, when the feline roaring inside of him picked up Laura Adam’s scent, his body tensed with arousal and came to a screeching halt. Struggling to keep his feline at bay, Jonno decides the best route to his mate’s heart is through seduction and honesty. After all, she has no clue that they are fated mates, destined to be together forever. And if things couldn’t get anymore complicated, Laura has no idea that shifters actually exist, especially the community of them living in Middlemarch. Therefore, determined to win his mate’s heart, trust, and love, Jonno decides to reveal himself to Laura in hopes that soon, she’ll accept him as her mate. At least, that’s the plan. Now, whether or not it will work is a whole other story.
Unfortunately, the smart, sexy, feisty and persistent Laura who has the mouth of a sailor, at least when it comes to fighting her attraction to Jonno, has other ideas in mind. Perplexed by her intense, sexual attraction for the sexy, ruggedly handsome prisoner, Laura fears that history is about to repeat itself, which is the reason she’s been demoted to Middlemarch. Determined to let nothing stand in her way of becoming a detective, even a protective leopard who’s her mate, Laura does her best to fight off Jonno’s sexual advances. But to her despair, it’s all in vain because for the life of her, she can’t seem to stay away from the man. Although she’s unwilling to admit that their “relationship” is more than just sex, deep down, Laura knows that there’s something special between her and Jonno. But, will her fear of the past prevent her from accepting her mate before it’s too late?'
Okay, I must confess that I had never read Ms. Munro’s Middlemarch Mates series, but as I finished Cat Burglar, which is the sixth book in the series, I’m kicking myself. Where have I been? This book was absolutely amazing. Ms. Munro did a fantastic job of providing the reader with just enough humor, suspense, and erotic romance to keep you begging for more. The words were fluid and her eye for detail regarding not only shifters, but also police protocol brought the story to life. Just when you think you’ve figured everything out and the bad guys are under wraps, Ms. Munro throws you a curve ball that only enhances the story and makes it more interesting. I love the Middlemarch community and found myself really wanting to be a part of it. The banter between the different shifters is hilarious and I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read the scene in the book regarding Mr. Fitzroy.
The passionate, explosive connection between Laura and Jonno was enough to set my e-reader on fire. But, the part I enjoyed the most was that in spite of them being fated mates, Ms. Munro made them work at building a relationship. The fears both characters experienced were realistic and truly brought them to life for me. I loved how Jonno was patient with Laura even though he knew that they were destined to be together, forever. He never made her feel inadequate, but instead, always loved and cherished her, which was something she had never experienced in her life. Although I haven’t read the other books in the series, I was able to read Cat Burglar as a standalone and still feel connected to the citizens in Middlemarch. In fact, it only increased my curiosity about them and made me want to find out more about their stories. Therefore, I moseyed on over to Ms. Munro’s website so that I would know which books to purchase. Now, I have all of the books in the series, but I’m so desperate to see what happens with Charlie, Gavin and Leticia that I’m going to read Book Seven first. I must admit that I’m totally addicted. Bravo to Ms. Munro for providing us with a heartfelt, sexy, smart, sensual story that comes alive on the page and makes the reader feel like a part of the Middlemarch community. If the rest of the books in the series are as good as this one, then I'm in for a wonderful treat. Not only will I recommend Cat Burglar to my friends, but I’ve also bought the rest of the books in the series.
