"Dark, disturbing, haunting, and beautiful, Skye Warren will take you into the depths of depravity but bring you home, safe in the end." -- Kitty Thomas, author of "The Last Girl"
Mia longs for the daily torture to end, but one last task keeps her holding on. In a betrayal of the crime lord who pulled her from the gutter, she’ll free the shipment of human cargo, and if she’s lucky, die in the process. The alternative is unfathomable, even to a woman well-versed in erotic torture. But luck abandons her yet again when she meets the security expert in charge of the shipment and finds herself face to face with her childhood crush. The man she once begged for help. The man who failed her.
Tyler Martinez is an undercover FBI agent with one chance to right the wrongs of his past. Thrust deep into the seedy world of human trafficking, he must put aside his guilt over abandoning Mia all those years ago in order to save her now.
Someone’s pulling the strings in this sadistic play on trust, but Tyler and Mia may not live long enough to see the curtain fall. Trust in Me is a story of erotic pain and incipient romance, spiraling ever faster toward betrayal or redemption.
WARNING:
This book contains explicit scenes of dubious consent, graphic violence and sex. It also depicts abuse and captivity situations. Not appropriate for anyone uncomfortable with these situations or anyone under the age of eighteen. This is a work of fiction.
Carlos looked down at me from his seat with a half-smile. The guy next to him was speaking in low, urgent tones, but I had his attention.
Other whores might try coy smiles or a flash of cleavage, but if you really knew El Jefe—and, unfortunately, I did—then you knew all you had to do was drop to his feet. I knew what he wanted and how he liked it, knowledge born of years of training. As long as I behaved, he wouldn’t kill me. I craved the release of death, but I was too well trained to earn it.
I reached his leather shoes and waited. The same Italian leather shoes that had kicked me only recently, but they weren’t a danger to me now. Carlos didn’t like to get too messy when he had guests. Even though I didn’t like performing, I could be glad this new guy was around today. Then again, I’d probably have to service him next.
Carlos unzipped his pants.
The guy sucked in a quiet breath, as if we’d shocked him.
That wouldn’t stop Carlos. He wasn’t an exhibitionist. He was a sadist, and the only thing better than causing someone physical pain was causing him emotional discomfort. Every pinch was designed to humiliate, every blow to subjugate. You’re not worthy, they said, and I lapped up every blow to my shrunken ego like the masochist I’d learned to be.

This is a hard hitting story told through the eyes of Mia. At times it’s scary and makes you feel as if you’re with her during the story. Certainly a well written piece and one that will stay with you.

This is a FICTIONAL erotica book about Mia, sex slave and favorite to a sadistic crime lord. It starts with Mia firmly entrenched in a life of submission, abuse, humiliation, depravity, pain, and sex with no hope of ever escaping alive. She wants to save others from a similar fate and decides to help save a new shipment of women about to arrive. If exposed she will be killed in the most terrible and painful manner so who she trusts will be a life or death decision. Her own.

Review:
Mia is not your typical heroine; she's tough, she's cynical, and she's a whore. Or she thinks she is a whore. Mia's life has been traumatic, starting with growing up on the wrong side of the tracks through being abused by her father and ultimately ending up with a crime lord, Carlos. Carlos enjoys pain and humiliation but he gets his kink on through dubious or non-consenting women. Even when they are consenting (like Mia) it is sort of a coerced submission filled with threats and recrimations such that they have no other choice. Mia finds herself with Carlos after he literally rescues her from the gutter and feels as if she has very little she can do to change her life. The best, she thinks, that can be hoped for is she will die bringing to light one of Carlos's vices, human trafficking. Tyler is undercover trying to expose Carlos. The secret is Mia grew up with a huge crush on Tyler so the humiliation and pain in front of him gets to her like nothing really has in the past. When they discover they are both working on the right side of the law but the wrong side of Carlos will they be able to escape the clutches of Carlos's painful grip?
Trust in Me as a title speaks to the theme of the story itself, when all else is gone and hope is only a glimmer who do you believe in? Mia's background, though horrific, is likely not unique in the underbelly of poverty ridden areas with criminal activity. Though we might all wish this was based on fiction it is too easy to picture a reality that mirror's the tragedy which has defined Mia's life to date. I thought it was courageous of the author to make the reader understand Mia is a victim yes, but she is also a survivor. She says and does things that, frankly, do not make her relatable in some ways. She makes choices that some of us don't understand, can't understand. Yet she remains fully human and flawed like we all are. She is not a caricature of a character, she is the real deal.
Tyler is a bit more stereotypical. The Knight in Shining Armor but he is not exactly what he seems. Really nobody is in this book except maybe Carlos. It is fascinating that Carlos's first acts with Mia were of the same knight mentality as Tyler. What happens when the veneer of humanity is suddenly stripped from Mia's eyes just hits you right in the gut as a reader. Carlos as the villain is perfect, with enough nastiness to make you want to take him out in a painful way. No redemption for him, he is evil itself. The story has a great deal of suspense though not necessarily edge of your seat but more anticipation and expectation. It felt like I was reading a much longer book and it was a very intense read. Palpable. Tight.
I have to caution Trust in Me is not for those who want the "sunny side up" romance. All glittery and golden and without pain and torture. This is dark, gritty, and feels authentic to crime drama. Those who like to tread on the dark side with their erotica and who enjoy dubious or forced consent will enjoy this novel.
