“Zoë, I’m warning you.” Before he could stop her, she’d pushed open the door and flicked the light switch.

I’ve read some of Bowles’ other books and liked them for the most part, but somehow this one didn’t resonate with me. Zoe and Hunter were graduated out of the foster children system at age 18, and then they parted, not seeing each other for many years. During that time, Hunter had been in the service in Iraq and Afghanistan, while Zoe was making her way as an exotic dancer.
Now Hunter is back, with many dark secrets, to take Zoe away from all this and install her in his home, hoping to make her his submissive. She’s not averse to that, and they begin a hot affair. What I had trouble with was the hot and cold domination of Hunter. Surely a Dom who went to all the trouble of setting up an elaborate play room would make more use of it. Surely after catching Zoe out in transgressions meriting punishment, he would mete out much more than he does.
The sex is pretty good, and the premise of the story is fine. I just felt the execution of Destined for the Dom could have been done better.
